Whitcomb's also DESIGNS and PLANTS food plots for better wildlife management. We believe you are what you eat.You can give the deer in your hunting area the best possible diet by following these simple tips:

  • Maintain proper pH level in the soil where your food plots are grown. Years of research have proven that properly prepared soil should have a pH near 7. A soil test should be taken to determine that proper amounts of fertilizer and lime are applied. Testing has proven that properly prepared soil results in healthier bones and increased antler growth.
  • Increase the pH levels where your food plots are grown by adding lime to the soil.
  • Plant food plots with Whitcomb's 9-Variety food plot seed mixture, proven to be high in calcium and protein, and other essential minerals on a properly prepared soil. Protein is especially important in the whitetail's diet in the early spring.
  • New growth on plants in the spring contains the highest protein levels, and these levels gradually decrease as the young plants mature. For this reason it is important to keep food plots cut at eight inches in height in order to retain the high protein level required by the deer.
